Velvet Insane - High Heeled Monster album cover

VELVET INSANE; one of the sexiest Swedish Glam Rock Bands, have come back with this hottest intention to pour glitter all over your unexpected self with this new full-length studio album entitled: "High Heeled Monster" (released 25th of August, 2023), signed via Wild Kingdom Records - the trio in question arranges an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Glam Rock ramifications that is filled with vivaciously vigorous rock anthems and empowering ballads that will slither through you with electrified big dick energy... think of STEEL PANTHER on that one. Sadly no appearance from them, yet maelstrom artists from Dregan (BACKYARD BABIES, THE HELLACOPTERS), Chips Kiesbye from SATOR and Bonni Pontèn from ASTA KASK make prominent guest appearances for good immersivity in instrumental uniqueness & revelled yet riveting tonality - 11 tracks range around a half an hour long... VELVET INSANE aim to rock you like a hurricane on steroids whilst smothered with vibrantly sparkling potency that will make your skin crawl in no time - one way or the other.

Right off the bat; KISS springs to mind with the opening rocker "Balamama Breakout", this surge of rip-roaring rollicks unleash this boisterously bouncy calamity in catchy frolics that showcase this radio-friendly linearity... amplified adrenaline heralds a dexterously dynamic virtuosity which revolves around a distilled chug from distorted guitarist Jesper Lindgren, crunchy chunkiness element at a flamboyant aesthetic in rapidly swift nimbleness & organic substance that strife's with meaty rhythms that strike seamlessly with funky attribute. An old school yet traditional trailblaze that sonically pursuits with towering solidity which synergises well with the thumpy reverbs from flickering rambler Lidvig Andersson Lindgren on the audible bass, in which the slower yet snappier anthem "Boogie Star" most jazzfully portrays.

"Damage Control" ramps up the feel-good grandeur in dense slabbiness that zestfully relishes through with fingering/feet tapping thrills that pierces through you with salubrious systematic, nice solos sear with upbeat virulence & venomous momentum. Jumpy party excitement in "Sweet As It Can Be" hypes up the weekend with quirky finesse and trumpet transitioned buoyancy, ebulliently forging a diverse characteristic that utilizes sulphurously synthetic melody that's totally remedious and authentic in every strumming sense. While the darker but hefty "Don't Let The Poor Boy Down" showcases this mystifying tremble whilst showing off Jonas Eriksson's rough pipes of throaty singing prowess that's panache driven and chirpy but cheery all round (prodigiously merged with the dark blend of course) ... within the songwriting structure of instrumental dashiness that's masqueraded with groovy efficaciousness to boot.

"Looking For A Rock (About To Roll)" creates a distinctively distinguished fabrication in effervescent contrast towards the rolling yet simplistic flashiness in which the jaunty jolliness can be felt with quintessential meticulance that's immersive fluid and dainty. "Jemmy" has a vintage sound to it as does "Hardest Of Hearts" and the happy-go-lucky "Runaway Bride", where this memorably pleasing bedazzlement enthrals eardrums with nothing but festive jamboree that's elegantly exquisite and joyful to jam to. The penultimate "Act Together" has a crowd enriched participation to it, a stereotypical party track that's radiantly appropriate for the tremolo building crescendo implementations embedded within the finale epic "Saturday Night Till Sunday Morning".

Bottom line; I am compelled to say that my overall concluding expectations here was quite accurate from the start, VELVET INSANE forged a borderline foundation in this typical subgenre that will please fans indefinitely of aforementioned bands... yet there's nothing to go back to should you have come across this review - my opinion - should you want this new discovery. However, a flexibly fundamental listen awaits those who crave it... just personally, while I enjoyed it - "High Heeled Monster" will not be an experience worth re-playing sadly. Give it a go though, you might prove me wrong.
