Abstract Void - Forever album cover

ABSTRACT VOID is a "one-man project from the planet Earth...an experimental blend of Blackgaze and Synthwave. This is their fourth album, and it has seven songs. "In the Dawn" is first. It has a smooth and mellow beat with some very rich keyboards. You can barely hear the Black Metal screams behind the thick waves of the synths, and their presence goes against most music convention. It reminds me of looking through a kaleidoscope and discovering new colors that you have never seen before.

"Forever" is another bright spot on an otherwise dreary day. Let these melodies lift you up out of your funk and just run away with them, through warm fields with iridescent flowers and happy people waving by. The melodies are simple but so damn catchy. The cool tones of "Lost in the Night Sky" will bring a chill to you, but it's the kind of welcomed chill that you feel on a hot day. It makes me think of the night sky...its awe-inspiring beauty, and infinite size. Lie on a hill on a clear night and just look up and get lost in the gorgeous canopy. "Broken" carries a bit of sadness to it, especially when considering the vocals, but the music is still very positive and bright. This juxtaposition of sound is very well done, indeed. The electro drums also add another nice layer to this rounded sound, and if you are broken, you really seem content with the situation.

"Artificial Emotions" has a rougher edge to it but those melodies still shine though like a beacon cutting black clouds. It takes a brief pause around the half way mark, before returning triumphantly like a victor in battle. "Day by Day" has an exciting and rousing sound that will cast your worries aside. The keyboards are lush and fluid, and although the song has a harder edge, it is still gloriously melodic. "Recollection of Loss" closes the album. It has a serene and lustrous sound. Even though the vocal screams try to cut through the keys with all their might, the keys remain unscathed. The melodies stand like a mountain against the raging storm, and do not budge an inch.

Overall, this album was fantastic. I love the brazen defiance the artist shows against Metal convention. In my opinion, a lot of Metal has just become too harsh...bands are trying to one up each other with more and more aggression, while ABSTRACT VOID is in the corner, away from the spotlight, composing opulent, memorable melodies. The uncommon duo of the brightly dressed stranger locks hands with the filthy Black Metal beast and just strolls into the sunset, forever joined.
