From their EPK, "In the vast cathedrals of the forgotten faiths the shadows gather in black pools around the towering pillars and behind the dust shrouded altars. The air is cold and lifeless and silence reigns within the eternal stillness. The faces of angels stare down from the unseen heights with unblinking, stone eyes, their mouths frozen forever in muted hymns of praise. Nameless messiahs are trapped in the stained glass windows, colours dulled by dirt and perpetual night, imprisoned in moments of stories which no longer have meanings, beginnings or endings. This is the fate of gods - to fall from power and dominion to the darkness where emptiness is all..."

The album has six songs, and "Pvification" is the first. It's a short instrumental and mood-setter, and the mood is both somber and dangerous. Tension hangs in the air like a thick cloud. "Into the Unknown" begins with a cautious pace that turns faster. The guitar work is built in layers, and the vocals are nasty. There is an air of the unknown present as well, as the title suggest. That key change was unexpected, and immediately clears the clouds from the air, and I like what the change brings to the table. "And Everything Dies" comes for your throat out of the gates. It has a nice balance of sad tones with aggressive ones. Imagine how you might feel if someone took away something that you loved. Would you fight, or crawl into despair?

The title track is another tumultuous sound. As the storm passes, the skies turn quickly from grey to black, with occasional peaks of light streaming through. But as long as the storm lasts, there will be chaos. "Endless Illusions" breaks the break-neck pacing of the other songs, opening with crickets you might hear in the evening, and the gentle crowing of ravens. Water can also be heard softly crashing on the shore. A solitary guitar leads to the main sound, which is filthy, and nasty. This bite could kill you. More and more layers are added to the desolate sound, until the end, which slowly fades out.

"Under a Watching Sky" brings the album to a close. The tones are odd, and suspenseful. Something is indeed out there, watching over you. Is it an angel, or a demon? The backing ambiance leads me to believe it is the latter. Overall, this was a traditional Black Metal album in the sense of all the major tenants of the genre, but it was also expansive, and exploratory, and it kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting for what was to come. Kudos to this trio, for breathing new life into the genre. You will want to hear this album for sure.
