I, Oathbreaker
Infidel

I know INFIDEL just because I have seen some posters of their live appearances here in Athens. Judging from the bands that played with them and the name of this band, I was suspicious of what this band's style would be like. The one thing I didn't know was two familiar guys would play in this band. Especially, for people living in Greece, these two guys will probably be well known...
So, INFIDEL is a Stoner/Doom Metal band which was formed in the summer of 2000. The thing I didn't know about this band is that two of its members are editors of the well known Greek Metal Hammer magazine, Kissadjekian and Poussios. Anyway, that's not the point. They have up to now supported bands such as ORANGE GOBLIN, GRAND MAGUS and ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY. Without having released any demo or promo stuff, they recorded their debut album, I, Oathbreaker, which earned them a contract with EMI.
I, Oathbreaker is an album that I said above moves between Stoner Rock and Doom Metal. From the first notes of the opening track Mourning Demon, the listener instantly realizes what he will have to face during the whole duration of this album. The ten tracks of this album are deeply influenced by bands like CANDLEMASS, TROUBLE, THIN LIZZY and of course BLACK SABBATH. In my opinion there also some more melodic breaks that remind of URIAH HEEP. The music these guys perform is fucking groovy and heavy as hell. The production is really nice and the instruments are partying like they are working with alcohol instead of electricity! The only thing that spoils the whole atmosphere is the singer's voice, who pointlessly tries to imitate Messiah Marcolin's voice! I don't say that his voice sucks or something like that, but why doesn't he sing with his own voice? If someone wants to create something that is a copy/paste version of a band, he just forms a tribute band!
Anyway, I, Oathbreaker is a good release for everyone that is looking for something heavy or something to accompany his beer drinking moments (or whiskey, it depends on your taste). You won't find anything that will make a huge impact on the Metal scene in this CD, just honest and passionate music.
