Deformatory is a technical (or brutal if you like) death metal band from Ontario Canada that upon first glance isn't particularly special or unique, but if you really pay attention to the instrumentation these guys are really talented. Now right up front I want to get this out of the way; I do not like the vocals, no insult to Charlie Leduc, but this style of harsh vox is just not my bag. Honestly this is why I don't like brutal death metal as a genre, tech death usually has more of a range of vocalists, but almost every single brutal death metal band I've checked out sounds like this. The guttural growls are so low that it ends up sounding quite monotone and there's no variety in how he vocalizes the words, it's all the exact same tone. So unfortunately this hurts my enjoyment of the album, but I really like what the guitars and drums are doing underneath. I probably use this phrase too much, but variety is the spice of life and while the vocals lack that variety, the rhythms and riffs keep things varied and interesting throughout.

I find myself having a hard time commenting on the individual songs, I know this is  an old cliche in writing reviews, but seriously all the songs sound alike to me. I listened to this album at least 5 times and because it's pretty much going 100% the whole time it's hard to maintain tight focus for the duration of the album. I still very much enjoyed the music underneath, but it was really easy for me to let this slip into background music. This isn't helped by the fact that the vocals are completely unintelligible and incredibly repetitive. There were solos here and there that stood out, but for the life of me I can't remember which song which solo is from. I guess a lot of my opinion can be summed up with "I don't like deathcore vocals", so if that's your thing you will love this. The music underneath the vocals is awesome tech death that's mixed really well, so I encourage any fan of technical death metal that slows down for nothing and no one, to check this out and decide for yourself.

Even though the songwriting is kind of a mess, musically this album is fantastic and I would love to hear an instrumental version of this, I would love to have that on while I'm doing homework or reading. I wish I had more to say about "Inversion of the Unseen Horizon"; they have a cool name, they have great artwork and I like their sound, but the vocals just aren't for me and I had a hard time getting past that to truly enjoy the album. Kudos to these two guys for creating a metal album of such quality though really, this sounds great.
