Anaal Nathrakh - When Fire Rains Down from the Sky

Reissues are done to be the opportunity for the new fans to earn some old materials from bands they came to like after the physical copies of the releases aren't available anymore (especially on these days we are living, when buying a CD or vinyl album is something related for old collectors). And for those who (as me) came to know the work of the English duo ANAAL NATHRAKH recently, this reissue of the EP "When Fire Rains Down from the Sky, Mankind Will Reap as It Has Sown" is an opportunity to check about their past.

The music of the band is still aggressive and nasty, crude and brutal with very clear influences from Black Metal fused on their Grindcore/Death Metal orientation; but experimental approach that they use is on this (even not as clear as can be heard on the later albums) can be felt in some moments (pay attention on some nightmare choirs that appear on "Cataclysmic Nihilism"). But for the fans that aren't into such paranoid of ideas used by writers to describe what's being played, is enough to say that this EP is really amazing. Mick Kenney (the band's guitarist) produced and made the sound engineering (and the artwork as well, so it's clear that the band's musical direction of those days (as told above, more into an extreme trend than in an avant-garde form) orientated the choice for something nasty and abrasive, but in a way that every listener can understand what's being expressed by the duo.

The songs are a maelstromic flow of chaos and aggressiveness, as can be heard on "Cataclysmic Nihilism" (fast tempos with a thunderous rhythmic work from bass guitar and programmed drums), on the nasty and fast expressions of "How the Angels Fly in (We Can Never Be Forgiven)" (simple rhythm, chaotic guitar riffs) and of "Never Fucking Again" (another storm of massive guitar riffs), on the shredding snarls and shrieks heard on "Genesis of the Antichrist" and "Atavism", and on the furious "When Fire Rains Down from the Sky, Mankind Will Reap as It Has Sown". All of them use fast tempos, but with the main differences between them, and bearing some experimental touches.

For those into Black Metal, this reissue of "When Fire Rains Down from the Sky, Mankind Will Reap as It Has Sown" is a great opportunity to know what ANAAL NATHRAKH did in the past. But today, they are kings of their own way.
