Mourning Sun
Fields Of The Nephilim

Fields Of The Nephilim is a really special Gothic Rock band whose style is quite hard to describe while their music is even harder to comprehend and to feel. Its name comes from the Nephilim who are biblical angels that have the task of bringing very important secrets to the human race. The band, based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, burst out in 1984 as the main idea of vocalist Carl McCoy and went on with huge success, especially in the Gothic world.
Fields Of The Nephilim is a largely influential band that has almost attained cult status between its fans and bands of the whole - and not only - Gothic Rock genre. The band manages to maintain the usual Nephilim mystical atmosphere throughout this record in a sometimes frightening and full of weirdness way.
The originality of the Fields Of The Nephilim is obvious and self proved. Their music - very strange indeed - actually offers a mystical trip to the inner of every person's soul. They manage to offer catharsis with their songs, leading the listener to a haunting sonic journey. The main man, Carl McCoy, prefers to refer to his guest musicians as ghost musicians and this is definitely one of the interesting aspects of his own unique and definitely enigmatic personality.
Musically speaking, Mourning Sun sounds as a natural progression from the previous album to a more metallic and atmospheric plateau. The lyrics of McCoy mostly deal with subjects concering mysticism, hidden secrets, traditional lore and stuff like that. Of course the lyrics are full of symbolism and are bound to free interpretation.
If you are into Gothic stuff then this is a must have album without any question. If you feel slight indigestibility when listening to bands of the genre then maybe you just have a listen to the record before you go to the shop!
