Flotsam And Jetsam - Dreams Of Death album cover

Veteran Thrash masters Flotsam And Jetsam make our dreams come true about their continuation of their myth and offer us the Dreams Of Death. And what more would a thrasher ask in his dreams than the continuation of the American Thrash saga? But is this true here in the case of Flotsam and Jetsam?
There are many really heavy tracks in Dreams Of Death which manage to maintain the heritage of the Flotzilas! In addition, there are many well played solos on the album which make the band's effort really worthwhile. Some really trained ears can hear certain Voivodisms in some parts of certain solos! You must also pay attention to the strange and airy instrumental song Nascentes Morimar which is one of the finest moments of this album.
The voice of Eric A.K.  is at very high points throughout the CD. The guitar work is also very high in quality even though the riffery itself could be more interesting. It is quite hard to manage to compose something extremely unique nowadays but these guys seem to have slightly stuck to their ideas and even though the songs are very well played, they do not manage to escape from the typical Metal clichés and overall ideas. This does not mean that they have lost their Thrash abilities but maybe their ideas need a slight polish, just a bit! The record manages to lose its edge in 2 or 3 tracks meaning that their ideas are not that exceptional and do not manage to capture the listener's interest. We must also note that there are many melodic guitar lines combined with thrashy phrases at certain times.
You could also say that this album lacks of a track that would be the hit of the album and would manage to grab the listener from his head! Maybe the Flots and Jets would have achieved better sound results - production wise speaking - if they had chosen some other producer or way of recording. Overall the highlights of this album can be considered - amongst others - the following ones: Straight To Hell, Look in His Eyes, Bathing In Red and Nascentes Morimar.
We will be waiting for the next Flotsam assault with anticipation but until then our dreams will be filled not with death but with plenty of juicy Heineken beer!
