MEN OF MUNGA are a stoner doom metal band from England, the band was established back in 2014 and is made up of members of A HORSE CALLED WAR, SUNSHINE REPUBLIC, and the since split up CORONACH, and are no strangers to the world of metal or even the studio as they have released on EP titled "EP" in 2015 as their debut release which was followed up the following year by their debut full length studio album "Drug Trolley Blues" in 2016 and in 2021 we were greeted with their second full length studio album "Ballads Of Munga And Men" which was released in January.

The album is packed with seven stoner doom metal tracks for fans to enjoy with Eddie's deep and powerful vocals as he battles it out on guitar with Gish to create high intensity, fast paced guitar riffs while Cooper's equally high intensity drumming skills compliment the guitars and Stevie's bass playing holds down the band making them sound incredible.

The band hadn't released any singles off this album prior to it's release leaving fans wondering what kind of sound they would bring to this album as it has been five years since their previous album was released and their sound would have evolved over time.

Although the album is only seven tracks long it, it is in no way a short album, with the average track length coming in at roughly seven minutes with the albums shortest track "Pity The Fool" clocking in at just over three minutes and the albums longest track "Pig Woman" clocking in at almost fifteen minutes in length which means that track alone is over a quarter of the albums total length. All the albums other tracks clock in at around the seven or eight minute mark except for "Mind, Body, Our Soul" which is almost six minutes and the albums closing track "Big Machine" which is just over six and a half minutes.

The album opens with the track "Pity The Fool" which I thought was a great track to open an album although it is the shortest track on the album, there's no time wasted as the energy of the track is brought out instantly and gives listeners a good idea of what's to come on the following six tracks.

The albums third track "Unit 731" although in parts can be really intense and in the listeners face when it wants to be it's a much more melodic style of track then the other tracks on this album however it is still just as entertaining as the other tracks on the album.

The albums longest track "Pig Woman" is a unique sounding track, starting off quite calm and very bass heavy before building up to a much more powerful ballad style track but also it does retain its intensity and musically chaotic nature throughout the track, at around the ten minute mark the song calms down dramatically with the introduction of the female vocals of guest vocalist Anna adding a unique and powerful sound to this track to make it stand out from the other tracks on the record.

Having listened through this record in it's entirety I can say that anyone who likes long tracks filled with intense musical chaos this is definitely a record worth checking out and fans of stoner doom metal should definitely be on the lookout for this band in the future.
