The second half of the 80's and the first half of the 90's defined a lot of features that can be considered the roots of many Metal genres. It's impossible to think of extreme Metal genres without having in mind that many of their basic layers were laid on those days, when the bands tried to create their own ways, and not copying what was already done. Today, many bands try to make something on those ways, but many only are copying again and again the same clichés. But some promising names appear using old formulas, as the Canadian trio DAWN OF TYRANTS shows on "Genocide Supremacist", their first album.

They play a form of Death/Black Metal that has a heavy influence of names as SARCÓFAGO, BLASPHEMY and others, playing a filthy and nasty form of music. Of course, their potential allow them to create something that (even using the old clichés told above) is full of an aggressive and raw energy, but in a catchy way that can be understood. Yes, they still have a long way to go to sharp their musical work, but they're on the right path. They really got a putrid sonority, in a way that makes their music to look like a nasty and organic recording from the old days. But the band shows that they wanted to be understood by the fans, even using such rusty and raw approach. Obviously that a cleaner approach on the next time will be welcome (but not in a way that can affect their musical ideas, of course).

For those that are into Old School Black/Death Metal, songs as the brutal "Genocide Supremacist", the sharp guitars with abrasive slow tempos shown on "Beneath the Hammer of Extinction" and "Through the Gates of the Void", and their oppressive and nasty Black/Death Metal version for "Christian Woman" (yes, that same old successful TYPE-O-NEGATIVE's song) are the right ones to cause that sensation of a sharp drilling screw passing through your ears to impale your brain.

Yes, DAWN OF TYRANTS is a good and promising name that deserves a chance in the future. But for now, the maniacs that like such a musical genre will have a strong crush on "Genocide Supremacist".
