Some bands separate, never to be heard from again. Others take a break and come back stronger than ever. Here today is HATE, after going on hiatus in 1987 following tragedy, they returned in 2018 reinvigorated and with a new lust for their craft. November 2020 saw the release of the studio album "Save You".
The artwork is very 80's with graffiti sprayed up an apparently back alley. Very retro guys. Opening is "Break It", and what a statement it is. Strong driving chords and the stereotypical Hard Rock attitude, this absolutely kicks ass! Strip it back a bit more, lower the lights and get intimate with HATE, "First Love" is a balladesque track that is just a really pleasant listening experience.
"Doctor" comes flying in once again with a memorable riff, a chorus that is just dying to be screamed by throngs of fans. The only thing that has been detracting from the quality of the music at the minute is the quality has been slightly off, the levels for example seem to be mixed a bit wrong, but that is simply my opinion.
Stop what you are doing and press play for "Angel On The Run", not this really is a change from what we have seen to this point, with the strings, the vulnerability and just the different depth that this takes us to, it is absolutely fantastic. There is certainly something for everyone within this record, the epic introduction and deep rough grunts of "Higher" again just show that HATE are not a one trick pony.
I want to draw attention to the final track "Save You" I will not delve into something I do not know too much about, save for some research, but I feel that this may be the bands homage to Daniele Ainis and it moved me, in fact it gave me goosebumps! Absolutely amazing guys.
Overall, this is a truly fantastic album. There is just a great variety that will cater to all fans, old and new. If this is anything to go off, I can truly hope that HATE will continue to go from strength to strength and I hope to see them in the UK someday
