Ymir - Ymir album cover

YMIR is a Finnish Pagan Black Metal band that comes and go, they started their career in 1998, released a demo on 1999, then they did another demo in 2006 and now after fourteen years they have released their first full-length album self-titled "Ymir" and that is what we are going to discuss now. The opening track from the album is "Pagan Mysticism" which start with a nice introduction with a few ambient sound and then it turns into the chaotic Black Metal session that goes to the end of the song with a lot of icy and fast guitar riffs, a totally dark ambiance and fast drumming and harsh vocals.

"Silvery Howling" continues the Black Metal storm, with a lot of fast riffs, nice melodies and now they added a few arrangements coming from the keyboards which gave the song a different dynamic and made it nice. "Ymir" is the title track of the album and it is as cold and strong as the giant that gave origin to all the men and gods that walks among the nine realms. Even if they kept their Black Metal vibration here, they added something more to that song... it's different.

"Frostland Conqueror" and "Winterstorms" are a bit slower than the other songs, you can hear different dynamics and patterns from the drums which to me was a bless to my ears. It is cool to see that they can keep their own identity but do something a little bit different in their own proposal of sound. "Ressurection of The Pagan Fire" is the song that closes the album and it starts with a brilliant Black Metal vibe that reminded me from the 1990's scene, as it is a different song if compared to the others here. Including the vocals are a little bit different and I liked how it gave dynamic to their role.

YMIR did an amazing Black Metal album with everything that a fan can ask for, since there are a lot of aggressiveness and chaotic ambiances, besides great harsh vocals that perfectly fits the songs. The production is cool, and I hope that they don't take another fourteen years to release something.
