Serpent Saints
Entombed

You know, masters of death cannot die. It's unbelievable but it's true. Let's see it from the start. When Nicke Andersson left this band many would expect a sudden death. But ENTOMBED survived. Same thing with Uffe Cederlund. It's impossible but they are here with a record which gives us the impression that nothing has changed. Of course we saw their disposal from the When In Sodom EP., but I think that Serpent Saints is better.
As the album starts with Serpent Saints, you re-invent their love for MOTORHEAD. The vocal lines are similar to Iron Fist. And all these after a chilly intro which reminded me a lot of old terror movies music. Then the song transforms into a fucking Swedish Death Metal hymn; the old way. Most of the songs are the most brutal ENTOMBED have written since the Clandestine era. For example, Masters Of Death has a killer slow part and then a riff like Ending Of Crawl .You know these riffs are trademark for old ENTOMBED albums and all the old Swedish scene back then. Look to the albums of DISMEMBER, CENTINEX etc. There is also some Death 'n' Roll (call me Wolverine Blues) tracks here like In The Blood or Ministry.
The voice of Petrov is the same as it was back in 1990. The new guys, Nico Elgtrand (from TERRA FIRMA - he was also featured in the When In Sodom EP) and Olle Dahlstedt (from MISERY LOVES CO.) - have been embodied with the legions of death. Some SLAYER riffs which were plenty in Morning Star or Inferno are of much less portion now , probably due to the 'missing' of Uffe.
As a conclusion: this is the new ENTOMBED album and it's good, with ten songs each one better than the other. So, there is no need to tell more, eh? In the back cover details it is said that this is the best album since Wolverine Blues. Well, I'll disagree and I'll say that Serpent Saints is as good as Morning Star or Inferno, and believe me these albums are very difficult to be competed. When we are talking about Swedish Death Metal , if ENTOMBED produce an album all others remain silent and listen.
P.S.: The track listing in the promo copy is different than the one written at the back cover. I don't know which one will be on the album.
