Oppress. - No. Pity album cover

To play Black Metal can seem to be an easy thing at first. But when one comes to understand the traditions and history from the genre, the first vision turns into a misconception, because this specific genre has some features that are important, but some can become lost into the labyrinth. And OPRESS. seems to have something to learn deeply for future releases, as "No. Pity" shows. It's a one man band, playing in the raw and aggressive way from the genre as it was conceived back in the beginning of the 90's. Musically, there are some good personal touches, as the use of contrasts on vocals and fine morbid ambiences. The musical work shows a personality, even with this form of Black Metal isn't being something really new. It has potential to show some improvements in the future.

The main problem is on the sound quality. It's not something sick and extremely raw the turns the listening into a hard work even for the genre's fans, but some care during the mixing and mastering is not a sin at all. OPRESS. music's needs a better sonority. On the songs, there are very good ideas used on the songs, especially on "Onto Silling" (the contrasts between different vocals tunes is a very good idea, and O.G. used it on a personal way), "No Pity" (the contrast between harsh aggressiveness and funereal parts is very good, and the guitar riffs are good and simple), "Empathy Exsanguinated" (this slow rhythm creating a morbid and darkened ambience has its appeal), and "La Petite Mort" (a touch of good technique can be heard on this one), but the idea is that the band needs a bit more maturing. The way is not wrong and the band has something good to offer, indeed, but it seems still a bit naïve.

No, OPPRESS. isn't a bad name at all, but due the potential that can be heard on "No. Pity" that we can demand more of O.G. I believe that he can put it out in a great way on the next time.
