Earth Pt. I
Celesterre
There are many times when musicians seem to not know properly how to express themselves musically. They know what to do and how to get it, but the lack of how turning an idea into music can be a tough thing sometimes. And that's the problem of CELESTERRE shown on "Earth Pt. I". Their musical work is based on a mix of traditional Heavy Metal with Progressive Black Metal and Doom Metal touches. So it's massive and aggressive sometimes, but differently from many bands from the genre that search for Progressive Rock inspirations on PINK FLOYD, these guys seems to use an approach with influences from JETHRO TULL (especially on the vocals), what means a different insight. Energy, good technical work and everything is really very good until this point. But there's a problem...
...They lose track during the production. The sonority is not bad at all, but the way it works is not what their music needs. It's truly aggressive and brutal in the tunes, but it's not what they need, because such aggressive load isn't what they need. Maybe a work with Øystein G. Brun next time could be a good idea. Musically, "Oceans" with its harsh and simple approach, "Islands" with its very good melodies (and very good vocals), the somber and deeper outfit of "Grasslands", the technical work created on "Cities", and the heavy and Progressive ambiance of "Forests" are really great, but the sonority doesn't fit as it could. And it's a pity, for the band is truly talented.
Obviously, an EP can be a short, unfulfilled experience, so let's look for next CELESTERRE's work. The band is truly a promise, but "Earth Pt. I" can't reflect what they are with such sound quality.
