Revolted Masses - Rise album cover

Sometimes, the use of labels for genres isn't enough to describe a band's whole musical work. The words can't describe fully the set of ideas that minds can bring forth into the world, so the best to do is to hear and take your own inner conclusions. The 'ear test' is always the best way. And the Greek band REVOLTED MASSES is one of those bands that fits in the idea of the 'ear test'. "Rise" needs it. A few words to try to describe what they play: it's a modern form of playing Progressive Thrash/Death Metal, filled with a modern and aggressive groove. Obviously that some listeners will have the idea of something near Metalcore and some modern Metal genres, but keeping the mix of Thrash/Death Metal filled with aggressiveness and a good technical insight. It's full of energy and many hooking parts under such musical violence they unleash. And it's truly good.

Vaggelis Theodorakis is the one who mixed and mastered the songs of "Rise". The sound quality heard id modern, bearing that 'greasy' set of instrumental tunes of many Metal names from modern genres. But it's clean and defined, in a way that can be fully understood by all. On the songs, a blast of greasy and modern aggressiveness flow from each one of them. But to start with the album, the best songs are "Rise" (filled with many broken parts and breakdowns, and a great work from bass guitar and drums), the fast and thunderous "Drown in Apathy" (where some Thrash/Death Metal guitar riffs can be heard in the middle of the massacre), "A Chance for Heaven" (a song with a classic Thrash/Death Metal outfit, with very good licks on the guitar solo), "Stand in Line" (a fast and furious set of tempos can be heard, along with very good screamed vocals and backing vocals), and "Martyr" (with slow approach that reinforces the bitter and nasty ambience of the song). But the entire album is good.

REVOLTED MASSES came to impose a modern slaughter of ears, so be prepared when dealing with "Rise".
