The ROCK Album
Whitesnake
There are bands that even their compilations are precious items. Some know that just collect tracks and put in a different release isn't enough, so they try something different to enrich the release. And WHITESNAKE seems to understand such lesson, because "The ROCK album" is really amazing.
This compilation is a part of a trilogy called "Red, White and Blues Trilogy": this one is the white album (called "The ROCK album"), with Rock songs; the red album will be "Love Songs" (the ballads, you known), and the blue album (called "The BLUES album") will bring some bluesy songs. There's one new song, "Always the Same", that comes was recorded during "Flesh & Blood" sessions but wasn't release until now. The material comes from "Slide It In" onward (having in mind that "Here I Go Again" version presented on this release is the one from "Whitesnake 1987" and not the original from "Saints & Sinners"), the commercially successful era of the band. And all of them were remixed and remastered, so the best thing to do is to hear it and scream out loud 'shut up and take my money'!
David Coverdale worked one more with Michael McIntyre on the production and with Christopher Collier on the mixing. The efforts were done to make updates, but it's not clear if overdubs were done under the original tracks. But this new remixes and remastered versions are so lovely, so powerful, and in the case of "Slide It In" tracks (when things were pretty sour between the band and the original producer), they gained a new breathe of life.
As a compilation, let's say that some of the favorite tracks from the fans as "Slow An' Easy" and "Guilty of Love" are absent, but to have such versions for "Love Ain't No Stranger", "Still of the Night", "Give Me All Your Love", "Here I Go Again" "Judgement Day", "Restless Heart", "Anything You Want", "Crying", "Best Years" and "Tell Me How" is an excellent experience for the ears, for they're precious. And "She Give Me" (from David's solo album, "Into the Light"), and the lovely and accessible "Always the Same" makes things even more interesting.
Well, for the new fans, "The ROCK Album" is a great opportunity to know some past work of the band; for the older fans, a new opportunity to see how modern techs can make old hymns sound great again. After all, WHITESNAKE didn't lose its poison, and as the other two albums are in this way, "The ROCK Album" is a great way to wait for them.
