Aiming for an original sound, Montreal, Canada based band, EVERTRAPPED, hits us with a "Melo Tech Death" metal sound. The band was birthed in 2007 and have been busy performing in various shows and clubs since. They list such influences such as IN FLAMES, MACHINE HEAD, and SOILWORK to name a few. To quote a piece off of their bandcamp web page, "[EVERTRAPPED] The Band's name is intentionally written with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us, and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility." Which is a statement rife with existentialism. The band has a growing fan base and is gaining popularity on social media. EVERTRAPPED boasts some scathing rifts and a mix of clean and "screamo" vocals, as well as a soft melodic side to the mix.

"Sorrow (Nothing More In Between)" - With Synthesized keyboard notes, this song starts out soft but quickly reverts to a much faster beat. Poetic lyrics sung in multi tonal voices by the lead singer and background singer combined. The background vocals by James are phenomenal at the halfway mark of the song. Reminiscent of some of the vocals in BLACK CROWN INITIATE. "Truth Behind Disorder" - Shots fired, and we hear the haunted scream.... a "metal" intro to a fast-paced song. Blast beats on guitar and drum lead the pace of the melody quiet effectively. I can imagine some epic headbanging to this song. "Across the Disease" - An aptly named song title for these times. I don't know if that was intended or not, but it is a nice touch. This song really fits that "Melo Tech Death Metal" title. While the vocals hit hard, we are met with some techno parts; as well as the melodic parts that theme so heavy throughout "The Last Extinction".

"Illusion" - My favorite song on the album due to its piano at the beginning. This is a much softer song than some of the others on the album. But wait.... it gets harder after that achingly beautiful beginning. When the luscious piano is followed by dark screams, metal meets melody. "Learning to Kill" - Sounds that could have come from an alien ship open up the last song on "The Last Extinction". Definitely following its techno vibes. Fantastically sung lyrics lead the mind down the rabbit hole of madness. A mind reaching place of twisting audios, filling the ears with "the colors of sound". Swirling and trippy.

EVERTRAPPED has a unique sound, however wraps in that which we are familiar with too. A great combination that brings a potentially new sound to metal. Worth checking out! You may become one of their fanbase. I conclude, I liked the album. m/
