Germany's Death Metal scene has always been thriving, and it continues to do so as SABIENDAS released "Repulsive Transgression," a stomping, groovy record like a slightly more complex JUNGLE ROT.

Like JUNGLE ROT, Sabiendas seemed to have simplistic music. However, with the simplicity came something very attractive. "General Butt Naked" was the first track to stand out in this way. While the riffs were nothing revolutionary, it still had its own charm. In fact, the leads on this song were particularly good, and the songwriting was even better. The way the main riff near the beginning progressed was one of the most memorable moments of the record.

And it stayed at this same level throughout the entire album. It successfully maintained the same level of quality and heaviness without ever getting too dull, and this was even difficult for JUNGLE ROT to achieve on most records.

By "Served Cold," the realization occurred that each track thus far has progressed through many different riffs and motifs before ultimately ending. This aspect alone was admirable because with a simplistic style of riffing, one would have thought it would have been hard to come up with more riffs. However, Sabiendas did not disappoint.

"The Siege" was one of the album's highlights, containing heavy, groovy riffs consistently throughout the track and featuring some very good leads. The main riff was even Slam-like in nature, reminiscent of some DYING FETUS riffs.

While the simplicity and songwriting were both very well-done, there was one problem overall: memorability. Because the riffs were all so similar in nature, it was easy for them to mash together. There were memorable moments here and there, but some tracks definitely were lost in the mix.

Despite some small flaws, Sabiendas released a very good record this year. The groovy, crushing riffs were reminiscent of many of those heavy bands from the early 2000s like JUNGLE ROT or ROTTING. It was a very fun album to say the least.
