Kurnugia - Forlorn and Forsaken album cover

KURNUGIA is a 5-Piece Death Metal Band out of Cleveland, Ohio. This is their first full-length album after the release of two Eps back in 2013 and 2016 called ''Tribulations of the Abyss'' and ''Condemned to Obscurity''.

They are pretty much balls to the walls Death Metal from the first note to the last note pretty much. You do have a greater emphasis on quality over quantity and it's not a long album. You don't need something long in this genre that's for sure. It's a throwback to the glory days of gore, darkness and pure evil of the forefathers of the genre. The songs may have rudimentary melodic structure but it gets the point across and these songs are full of fast passages, blast beasts and double bass work.

The guitars offer a crushing sound and it's a take no prisoner attitude that keeps the listener entertained. It's an Old School Death Metal. There are no frills, it's not meant to be overly technical or super-original. This is an album to headbang to, not to write a book on music theory about. It sounds straight out of the Swedish Death Metal scene like early ENTOMBED. They really delivered something strong and something to look for in the genre. They stepped up to the plate and nailed it, from the first song to the last, even though it can be repetitive.

From time to time, the listener just wants something to release their pent up aggression. You want something brutal, aggressive and that pulls no punches, well this band is for you. It has that traditional aggressive sound of classic Death Metal. I know some people may consider it overbearing but this album is the type of album to helps you own when you are depressed and you just want to use this as anger management!

They do not escape from the genre and yes the band rarely sounds different from the legion of Brutal Death Metal bands out there. It might not be a masterpiece but it still very well done and has a plethora of breakneck moments and some damn good brutal growls!
