Itus - Primordial album cover

ITUS is a Doom Metal duo from Ontario, Canada. This is their first EP and is a modge-podge of a number of various genres. ''Primordial'' is the first of two Eps that will culminate into a full-length album, probably in 2021 if everything goes well. The two members were part of the Death Metal scene back in Ontario before starting this band. You can obviously see that did they haven't forgot about their roots nonetheless.

This is only a 21 minute long EP but you it's everything to everyone. One minute you have Psychedelic Rock like HAWKWIND, sometimes you can hear the distortion-driven KYUSS and at times you have traditional Stoner Metal all mixed into one. They don't shy away from anything and bring a lot at the table for such a small EP. It's an EP that packs a punch and holds its ground that's for sure.

The singer Reinier Vandenbosch brings a lot of passion to his craft and shows two distinct versions of his voice, you got the aggressive side that really catches the listener off guard but you have also the more calmer vocals that are actually quite haunting honestly. There is a lot of Death Metal vocalists out there and sometimes they can get on your nerves, you know it's always the same damn thing and sometimes the listener wants something more to sink its teeth in. I think both vocal stylings really complement each other and they are intertwined in a seamless way.

What really struck me about this band is that they are only two people, yet it sounded like there were additional instruments. This album is obviously well-produced and it shows as the shouting or more gruff vocals are done at the same volume and does not drown the rest. Stoner albums can never to be too long and the guitar work is on point. The intensity really shines and each song generates it more and more. You have the rhythmic highs and lows of the genre and all your senses are overwhelmed. It really makes the listener want even more and you kinda feel depressed when it's all over so you decide to listen to it all over again!

This is the type of EP that you just place inside your CD Player or on your MP3 player and just let all that negative vibes leave your body. You just listen to it and forget about everything all around you especially in this world of sickness, chaos and crisis. A modern twist to a overcharged genre!
