Here Comes Trouble
Sleazy Way Out

There are a few bands out there today who are truly getting it done when it comes to resurrecting the Eighties Hair/Sleaze Metal sound. Austria's MADHOUSE comes to mind instantly, and their 2019 release "Money Talks...Bullshit Walks" was in my Top Ten releases of the year. I entered into this review for SLEAZY WAY OUT's "Here Comes Trouble" absolutely stoked, hoping to find another great release. There are a few bands out there who are truly getting it done. Unfortunately, Montreal's SLEAZY WAY OUT is NOT one of them.
"Not Gonna Be There" opens up the record, and the first thing that struck me was how truly terrible it sounds. The mix is awful, the bass seeming to be completely missing, and the drums as thin as anything I have ever heard. What is unfortunately up front in the mix is Stacey Sleaze and his nasally, ultra-high pitched delivery. The lyrical content is also nothing to write home about here or anywhere else throughout the record.
"Trouble" follows, and yes, trouble follows. I have rarely heard an amateur demo recorded this poorly, and for all the same reasons mentioned above. The backing vocals recorded on this cut made me stop to make sure I wasn't listening to a band parodying Hair Metal.
There are many other examples I could point out to the negative, but one positive from the album is the opening guitar riffs from both "Hell or High Water" and its follow up, "Satisfaction." Unfortunately, after those first few seconds of promise, the songs fall victim to the same problems I have already mentioned. I am not certain what is going on with Stacey Sleaze and his voice, but throughout this record it is as if he is trying to sound like modern day Vince Neil (from some of the live outtakes we have all seen), and failing miserably at that.
I will stop short of going into a lot more detail, and I will not intentionally "cook" a band in a review. I will say that by the time I got to the album's closer "Waste of Time," the only thought running through my head was "Yes, it certainly was."
