Unravel

Ok this is female fronted metal so instantly gets false points. Fortunately enough this is the only negative I can track upon Unravel. Yeah you know I am kidding but I'm starting to fall on overdose with all those female fronted metal acts. We need more studs like Eric Adams in this music... I think.
Uravel is the band's second album. They have also released a demo CD back in 2004 and one album in 2005 (Oracle). Quite productive I have to say. DELPHIAN play a mixture of progressive / technical metal with female vocals and... flute (why?). Aniek Janssen (their singer) has a great and quite distinct voice, yet I think she would have sounded much better in more abstract style of music, anyway she really has a nice voice that blends smoothly with the music. The music now might cause headache to some of you since it varies from plain heavy to more distorted / technical themes (sadly no railroad riffs in here). I know this is not the easiest thing in the world to listen and thumbs up for the band exploring such kind of music.
Since this is rather hard to digest music one can track down may influences BUT never nail a copy frame from a known band. That's an extremely positive aspect in DELPHIAN's work considering the amount of clone bands emerge in rapid rates all around the world. Unravel demands the listeners attention through its entirety since its quite easy to lose track of what the heck are you listening at.
So drop down the flute, add some grunts and you got a killer group dudes. Not bad at all...
