Dark Moor - Beyond The Sea album cover

The power and atmosphere that bands like Labyrinth or Dark Moor can create Vs the recognition and acceptance both have achieved in the Metal music business is something I can't explain. Still, it's wonderful to have both bands under the same label now, added by the marvelous coincidence of both - again - releasing excellent albums. OK, let's focus on the M(p)oor side now...
For the unaware, Spain's Dark Moor took shape in1993 by Enrik Garcia and Javier Rubio (former member). Two demos - Tales Of The Dark Moor (1996) and Dreams of Madness (1999) - set the standards for the band to negotiate with various labels, ultimately (after many lineup changes, by the way) signing to Arise Records and producing four full length albums - plus some EPs. The music of Dark Moor can easily lie on the 'Italian Power side of Metal, featuring elements from acts like Rhapsody (vocal lines, speed chords) or Labyrinth (compositional approach, rhythm section). Still, don't you dare accuse the band for fakeness!
Dark Moor have built their own profile, not only due to the addition of Alfred Romero's unique voice ('moonlit, dare I name it after listening again to Green Eyes) since 2003's Dark Moor album - the guy sings as if he's Michael Sweet's (Stryper) brother sometimes - but also to the excellent mix of heavy rhythms and symphonic/baroque leads/keyboards (not the silly way some losers from Finland do). As if Hammerfall jammed with Symphony X at dawn...
Ten songs of pure majesty, this lineup seems capable of vicious actions in the future, a non-overloaded production (endangered species in our times) and a tendency to feel whether they must present complexity or straightforwardness as a weapon. Tracks like Before The Duel, Miracles and the list goes on. Madrid's pride, I guess...
Give this band the chance it deserves! You won't regret it, that's for sure. I hope things will work out as desired.
