YGODEH was founded in October 2009 by Pavel Stepanov(Piton). The band has gone through a number of challenges since it began, some positive and some, negative. After a successful Latvian tour in 2014, the initial 4-member band broke up and only two members were left. This however, did not hinder them from working on their next album. They recruited Aal as the newest member of the band and his bass skills contributed a great deal to the band. The trio released "Clinic of Maleficent", an album which proves that indeed YGODEH is on its way to greater influences in the Death Metal scene. "Clinic of Maleficent" contains 11 tracks.
"Clinic of Maleficent" introduces you to the album. You can't help but notice the bass guitar, drums and the general harsh vocals in this first track. The song has been layered almost perfectly and the technical part of the genre is well textured. It is indeed a work of instrumental genius. "Silent Scream" opens with a notable guitar which is accompanied by the harsh vocals/growl. Further into the track, the vocals get louder and harsher, the drums epic and the melody builds up gradually. "Time and Space" a drum solo opening makes this a master-piece in the 11 track album. Listening in closely, this track focused more on the drums, vocals and bass aspect of Technical Death Metal. Of course the guitar riffs are on point, a perfect blend.
"Molecules of Containment" opens with brilliant guitars and technical sounds. The drums are present and the vocals come in at exactly the right time. The unison in the instruments is splendid as the 'juice' in the track builds up. "Rehabilitated Indoctrinated Propaganda" opens with mind-blowing drums and catchy guitar distortions. The vocals come in almost immediately, harsh as usual but the tempo and agility changes as you could make out the lyrics at certain points in the track. Into the track, the guitars too build up making this a memorable head-banging experience. "Translucent Vision of I" opens with what I could make out as piano bass sounds. The harsh vocals in this track do not disappoint.
"Fragment 5" hits you with an amazing and blissful guitar solo which makes the track emotionally rich in some way. "Ballad Experiment" too opens with guitars which build up syncing with drums and harsh vocals. Something you could have missed in the previous tracks and this almost comes as a surprise. "Sole Deconstructor" opens with an army wake up trumpets sort of sound with drums which introduces the drum-guitar co-ordination. The melodies in this track seep into your brain and you cannot dare to press the next button when listening. Just like "Fragment 5", "Fragment 4" opens with an ambient introduction later accompanied by clear guitars giving you a wholly unique venture. The ambient sounds are clear all through the track and that's a plus one for the band and the album. "Symbolic" opens with drums, bass and technical elements which come in immediately. It builds up gradually with the vocals which are not so harsh this time, compared to the previous tracks.
Overall, YGODEH has easily surpassed the downfalls of the previous albums with this album which brings in new experiences that are discovered with each subsequent listen. Considering the previous mishaps of the band, they have not disappointed with their best, most satisfying album so far and I wouldn't be surprised if their following and plays grow. Each track in "Clinic of Maleficent" warrants its place on the album. So far, it is the best blend of Technical Death Metal and ambient influences.
