Forming in Stockholm, Sweden in 2014, SPIRAL SKIES bring a strong 1970's hard rock element to today's modern music. Since the band's founding, they have released a few EP's and gained attention in the local scene with their live performances. When I began listening to this EP, I said "Wow, this sounds like a modern day Jefferson Airplane." It came to no surprise that this is one of the band's influences. This was another chance for me to stray me away from the norm I'm usually listening to and hear something new and different.
The first song is the title track called "Cult". This song is a good collaboration of the likeliness of Jefferson Airplane and Black Sabbath, which makes for an interesting experience. The song has a really dreary, dark, yet relaxing touch. The second and only other song on "Cult" is "The Final Set". I enjoyed this one as much as the title track. Like the first song, this is like hearing a heavier and modern day Jefferson Airplane. It's fronted with strong female lead vocals and a great lead guitar. It's a bit more up beat and a little faster compared to the first one.
I enjoyed hearing this. I showed it to my father and a couple older friends that I knew would really love it. I found absolutely nothing to complain about other than I wish there was more to hear. The musicianship is wonderful and full of talent. The vocals are easy on the ears and the entire album was perfectly mixed with a great 1970s vibe to it. I hope to see a full length album in the future from SPIRAL SKIES.
