Grenouer - Ambition 999 album cover

In this time that everyone is living that seems to be a moment when a new musical paradigm is coming, in a similar way that Thomas Kuhn (an American physicist, historian and philosopher of science) stated in his book "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions". It will change no matter how hard some guys will complain or fight against it. And maybe the Russian quartet GRENOUER, from St. Petersburg, is showing it on their latest work, "Ambition 999".

Musically, it's modern, greasy and distorted, but using melodies in a way similar of what can be heard in Nu Metal and Metalcore, but being different and, at the same time, accessible to a broader public due the charming melodies used in their songs, and even some ethereal elements that seems to come from Progressive Rock in some moments. Yes, it's a different form to experiment on Modern Metal tendencies, and it's really charming to the ears. Giuseppe DUALIZED Bassi is the guy who signs the album's production, mix and mastering, and it can be said as an almost perfect work. The songs are sounding heavy and abrasive (as modern Metal tendencies needs to sound), but clean in a way that their melodies can be understood without problems. Yes, it's really good.

There are 15 songs on "Ambition 999", all of them being great moments, but the easy melodies of "Burnt to the Ground", the pounding heavy weight of "Nevermind Tomorrow", the ethereal tender and charming ambiance of "One Day", the great guitars presented on the abrasive "Medicine Treats No Lies" (a song that is accessible in a way that the listener will sing along them on the second time), the sharp modern insight of "Uncommon Faith", the instigating groove on some parts of "Universe of My Heaven", the deeper and introspective touch of "Ingenious Care", and the blunt and seductive silk aggressiveness of "Dangerous Girls" can be said as the album's finest moments, although all tracks are really very good.

GRENOUER is a veteran act, but maybe "Ambition 999" will take them to the next level.
