Creye
Creye
One of the greatest dreams of some Metal fans from Brazil is to move to Europe. In my personal case, I have a deep admiration for countries of the Northern part of the country, because every Metal genre has a fine representing band there. Sweden is on my top dream, because I'm a huge fan of Glam Metal and Melodic Rock, genres that are breeding excellent names there. And CREYE is one of these, as "Creye" shows it clearly.
They're into an AOR way, with fine melodies adorned with excellent keyboards arrangements, but have in mind that this sextet knows how to use excellent guitars (both on riffs and solos), a solid and technical work on bass guitar and drums, along with wonderful vocals (that can remind the tunes used by C. J. Snare in some moments). Everything bears those excellent hooking chorus and a massive dose of musical accessibility. But they aren't living in the past, because their music sounds alive and fresh. And what amazing hypnotic melodies they create. The album was produced by Erik Wiss, and he had chosen excellent melodic instrumental tunes with the right effects. They have enough distortion on the guitars to be called a Rock band, but not enough to break apart the AOR atmosphere. And everything is on the due place on their music, so be prepared for a show of melody and musical class.
The best ones (just as a reference, because all songs are amazing): "Holding On" (it's that powerful opening song, with a catchy chorus and amazing and accessible melodies), the climatic "Nothing to Lose" (great work from bass and drums on these tempos that seduce the listener), the charming choruses used on "Different State of Mind" (great vocals, indeed) and on "All We Need is Faith" (a song with heavier guitar arrangements), the accessible and almost Pop song "Miracle", the accessibility shown on the arrangements of "Christina" (great riffs and solos), the lovely atmosphere created on the chorus by backing vocals and keyboards on "Straight to the Top", the wild and savage energy of "Still Believe in You", and the "shake and rumble the house down" song "City Lights". But as a bonus, this acoustic version for "Straight to the Top" is really great. And let me tell you: to leave the other songs out from this list tore my heart to pieces. The emotion, the weight, the choruses... All in this album is incredible and brings tears of happiness to our eyes.
To call "Creye" a Masterpiece is not a sin. It's just a matter of justice.
