GOD - III (Holy Spirit) album cover

Like their name suggests, GOD is a bit of a mystery. They don't list any information on the band, nor the line-up. The only information they have is related to their bio: "GOD challenges you to consider your life & death through the power of music. GOD called a sinner in late 2015 to be a messenger, to share GOD through the power of multi-layered progressive instrumental metal. In reverence to GOD must remain completely anonymous. GOD utilizes the concept of "Inception" to induce thought into the listener through each album/song title. Each song is released with a coinciding video to ask questions to the viewer."

"III (Holy Spirit)" contains thirteen tracks. "Resurrection" leads off the album. Multi-layered guitars lead off the charge into the night, carrying banners of truth overtop a heavy djenty rhythm with doleful but spirited tones. It leads into the nine-minute "Called." Tense chords open the song leading to a mid-tempo groove with stalwart melodies and a heavy, syncopated rhythm that seems to explore the outer recesses of your consciousness. "Glorified" holds down a heavy and weighted bottom line while the guitars spiral high into the clear night sky, appearing as shooting stars amidst an ever-changing landscape of key changes. "Faith" has a more aggressive sound with ethereal legato guitars that pierce the heavy veil with razor sharp precision. The echoes throughout seem to form a vapor trail that lingers.

"Love" opens with a jovial melody that leads to a flurry of lead guitar notes and some noteworthy unison that has a spirited vibe, as the love seems to spread slowly at first, followed by an all-out display of atonement that is selfless and glorified. "Repentance" struggles at first to get off the ground, until you realize that is the sound here. The sluggish rhythms are enveloped by lush guitar tones that cover it up like a thief in the night. "Atonement" stays in the rich layers of the spectrum, with a forceful rhythm and tones of bright and hopeful tones that follow the namesake with complete vulnerability. "Holy Spirit" is eight minutes of bliss on a plate. Heavy, accented rhythms punch back and forth while mellow guitar notes float high in the air overtop, with a dreamy vision. If you tone out the punchy rhythms, the lead guitar notes dance in and around into a frenzy of a sound that speaks to your soul.

"Sanctification" is the final three minutes of a push on the album. Weighted, aggressive notes threaten to grey the skies with thunder and lightning while the legato guitars struggle to hold back the waves. The one-minute closer "Gospel" reminds you that there is a light the end of the tunnel, making all of your struggles seem worth it in the end. Overall, "III (Holy Spirit)" is the endless struggle between the heavy, angry rhythms that bubble underneath...dark, brooding, and threatening, and the spirited, emotive, and charging lead guitar parts that just find a way to keep a step ahead of the darkness with their beacons that won't be stifled. The energy radiates from within, giving you pause to enjoy the album with all the glory of GOD.
