Post-Mortem Psychanalyse Reloaded
Heksen
Some bands are trying to push things in traditional Death Metal to another level, trying to expand their musical possibilities; while others prefer to make things as Death Metal is being done since the 90's, and some are lost between these two worlds. Of course, some excellent works come from the bands that prefer a more traditional insight, and the French quintet HEKSEN shows that they are in the right path with this new version of their first album, now renamed as "Post-Mortem Psychanalyse Reloaded".
The greater fact we have to deal with: they play Death Metal in the same way of a traditional band from the 90's. But we can feel a modern energy, the needed life that must be inside of an old musical approach is here. Yes, they were able to make their music sounds fresh and new, even being something from the Old School, similar to European bands from the 90's."Post-Mortem Psychanalyse Reloaded" is just a remastering of their first work, the album "Post-Mortem Psychanalyse" with some bonus tracks. This version sounds very good, trying to keep the Old School Death Metal features only on music, not on the recording. So we can say that the sound quality of "Post-Mortem Psychanalyse Reloaded" is very good, being clean where it must be, but with the right doses of musical aggressiveness and weight. It also has a new artwork for the cover as well.
This physical version is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies in Digipak, having all the songs from the EP "Inquisition: The Way of Suffering", two new songs and a cover as bonus tracks. From the original tracks, you'll enjoy a good time hearing "Behind the Mask" (fine jigsaw guitar riffs), the good grunts presented on "Neo Cortex Annihilation", the fine bitter melodies that entwine our conscience on "Eternal Misanthropy" (very good work from bass guitar and drums is presented here), and the harsh approach of "Post-Mortem Psychanalyse". On the unreleased songs, the violence of "Patient Zero" and "Dismembered to be Buried" are fine choices for a good neck breaking time, along with their version for the old ENTOMBED song "Wolverine Blues" (one of their greatest musical influences, along with DISMEMBER and AUTOPSY). On the songs "Agony", "Revenge", "Heretic Holocaust", "Let's Dance" and "The Way of Suffering", we hear that the sound quality is not as good as it was until this point, but is good enough to hear how they are talented on Death Metal traits.
A very good name, but HEKSEN can evolve even more.
