Starting out as a cover band in 2007, from Gent, Belgium, CARRION. Their first album "Revelations' was self-released in 2012. Their second album "Time To Suffer' will be released June 22^nd 2018 via Mighty Music. CARRION seems to be one of those up and coming bands that came out of nowhere and now are gaining some spotlight while establishing their reputation. If you want music that rips your face of and is a surefire way to piss of your neighbors then CARRIONS' blend of groove, speed, and death metal will soothe your soul and it's deepest darkest desires. "So it begins", man, what a way to start. Rolling sets of triplets with a despairing guitar melody complimenting each roll. Then the pounding and the onslaught begins. If you cross the vocal style from SUFFOCATION and LAMB OF GOD, mixing grindcore and death metal, that would generate the commanding vocal style of Sven.

CARRION has a song called "Gingergrind." Now if you head on over to their Facebook page and look under genre they have listed "Gingercore." So being the curious minded person that I am, I sent a message to the band and ask them to explain. What I learned is its merely an inside joke about a ginger in the band, which I figured. However, it just goes to show that even in the most extreme of metal you can still have a sense of humor. The song itself has high tempo beats with open strumming chords at the start followed by a spirally whirlwind of blasting before transitioning into a steady give/take, back/forth ping pong groove. The many aspects and styles of music all crammed into this 1 track that fit together seamlessly really show the bands diversity. The vocalist and his vast tonal ability has me skeptical. Did he use an effects processor? At first listen it sounds like stuff others have done, but once you sit and really focus on it, the uniqueness stands out. If there is nothing more than a simple verb which is typical, then he has some impressive throat control and skill.

"In the end, there is only death" has an interesting start with some guitar scrapes and a riff that kind throws you as its slower than even half of the time of the drums. That trick in playing always pleases me and I'm sure some of you who also enjoy the moment of head bobbing or finger tapping that gets interrupted as you aren't on time anymore with the music and cant predict where exactly to fall back in. A better way to explain it is this. Find a smoker, and right as they get ready to take a puff, gently just roadblock the hand to mouth action. It only lasts about 1 second, but it makes the brain kind of trip over itself in a way it cant grasp. Predictability is safe. Predictability can also be boring.CARRION has a good ratio of both. Enough predictability to co-exist amongst established personal tastes. They don't throw out of place curve balls that just don't fit, they subtly mix it in so that it's digestible and seems clever.

Overall, CARRION has a thick, heavy, pit friendly, attention-grabbing brute force. The audio production quality and mixing is great offering clear and crisp sounds that aren't fighting one another. On PC and in the car my speakers were happy and able to handle the load with no volume or EQ adjustments. These guys are new, but they don't sound like it. Well maybe as far as innovation and creativity, but as far as skill they sound very seasoned and mature. I can see why things are taking off for them and you should too. Again, the release date is June 2018, mark your calendars.
