Till the Morning Light
Poisonheart
When you're dealing with Glam Metal/Californian Hard Rock from the 80s, you must have in mind that this specific genre has some secrets that you must be aware of. It's not just a matter of picking up the musical instruments and to beginning to play. You must have in vision that you must have a good production to help you, and a good amount of musical talent. The Italian quartet POISONHEART shows on their first album, "Till the Morning Light", that has talent, but need some improvements urgently.
They really are a good Glam Metal band with a heavier insight that comes from traditional Heavy Metal, in the same of W.A.S.P., DOKKEN, and others. But they need to improve a lot, because the vocals are too limited to their music, and doesn't fit in the band's musical work. Of course, I know that Vince Neil wasn't an amazing singer as well, but he worked a lot on his limitations to fit on his band, and I recommend the same for Fabio. The songs' melodic structures are fine, good choruses and accessible melodies are presented, so it's not a waste.
The main problem of "Till the Morning Light" resides in the sound quality. It's too crude and simple for a band of such a musical genre. The band and Oscar Burato (the co-producer, and the one who mixed and mastered the album) didn't seem to get the idea of the right sound for the album. Or maybe the conditions weren't the best for them, or they were searching for something organic, but it didn't work on this time.
On songs as the charming "(You Make Me) Rock Hard" with its AOR touches, the good riffs and melodic aesthetics that can be heard on "Flames & Fire", the fine work from bass guitar and drums on the tempos of "Lovehouse" and "Shadows Fall", and the Rock 'n' Roll energy that comes from "Hellectric Loveshock" you can feel that they have talent to play Hard Rock.
Adjusting the sound production, and a better producer to make their songs sound as they must, and I believe that they'll be a great band.
