Phylactery - Necromancy Enthroned album cover

Writing reviews is a very hard experience for the writers. It's because the amount of bands that we face that still copy other bands from the past is something really disgusting. If you want to have a band, you all must have a thing in your minds: you must have your own personality. You can't be a band that already exists (or existed on the past), and this is the problem with North-American trio PHYLACTERY. Their album "Necromancy Enthroned" is a great recollection of clichés. The band uses a mix between Death and Thrash Metal in the way the bands used to play on the second half of the 80s. We can say that they drink on the breasts of creations of SARCÓFAGO, HELLHAMMER and SODOM, but the problem is their lack of personality. They play using and abusing of clichés that any old Metalhead heard a lot of times, so it is truly boring.

The sound quality is another point that torments our ears (in the worst sense of the expression). It's moldy and raw beyond the necessary. Not, you can understand what they are playing, but the dirtiness that fills the songs are unnecessary, it damages their musical work (that isn't good from the beginning). Is it that cursed idea from the 80s that you must show that you true? Sorry, but to be true to yourself it's an idea that doesn't fit in this way. Some of their musical ideas are good, but the guiding insight is wrong. To sound raw and filthy to be aggressive is a waste of time, and as they need to show their musical personality. Songs as "Risen Restless Dead", "Morbid Existence", "Where I Dwell" with its guitars (some slow parts are good, indeed), the good drumming heard on "Eyes of Fear and Flame" and on "Bubonic Undeath", and the bitterness of "Eat of my Disease" show that they can do way better than this repetitive copy that we hear here.

What a loss of time...
