In Reverence - The Selected Breed album cover

It is to impress Sweden's ability to reveal so many good bands in the Metal scene. IN REVERENCE certainly does not go away from this list, and debuts with his powerful debut album titled "The Selected Breed". The album has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Sverker Widgren at Wing Studios, a renowned veteran of sound engineering on the Scandinavian extreme metal scene.

The band brings a very interesting musicality, while they have the core in the traditional style of old school Death Metal and introduces more modern and melodic elements in the right measure at the same time, providing a great and extreme experience to its listeners. Filip Danielsson (vocals), Pedram Khatibi Shahidi (guitars) and Oscar Krumlinde (drums) are musicians with a refined technique that magnify the work. Also worth mentioning is the great mixing work done on the album and the artwork.

"Jahiliah", the opening track, bring a dark introduction that remains from about a minute with the purpose to enlighten the listeners. After it, enters the instruments at a fast pace, mainly on drums, counting also with the presence of the vocal growls. "Gods Of Dehumanization" further accelerates the beat bringing the best of the style in the eighties: a deep song with a few moments of black metal and a heart-pounding chorus. "Prometheus" follows the same vein, but from the middle forward it becomes more melodic with and features a greater presence of lead guitar.

"The Sixth Bloodletting" and "Gift Of Disintegration" are my two favourite tracks of this work, they slow the rhythm a little and after they float with perfection and depth between immersive and totally exciting moments. I could see that "Anthropogeny" is the only song that finishes aggressively, unlike the rest of the other seven songs on the album when the end of the songs repeat, for fortune it is one of the few flaws found, another one is that the album's have a short duration of only 33 minutes.

"The Selected Breed" is a totally addictive album, I've heard about four or five times in one day without be reviewing. The tuning and the ability to travel through the ages of the styles are impressive, and I hope the band soon finds its space among the greats of the genre: Excellent debut album.
