A monster in a rest well assured, only to further down the road return in a blaze of glory, a crusade that was never done. Following a departure from the world of music in 2012, Henri Sattler, the leading brainstorm behind the Dutch blackened Death Metal phenomenon GOD DETHRONED, decided that it was time to head back in the trenches, back in the music business. And there was also an unfinished work with World War I, therefore, the final chapter of the band's haunting tales about that cursed war was born. "The World Ablaze", via Metal Blade Records, is issued seven years after the band's previous effort. WWII might have been the worst event in human history, yet Sattler and the gang has perceived the atrocities of the First World War in such a manner that shed enough light to expose that it was no less brutal.

Continuing from the last point their tracks stopped, GOD DETHRONED remained true to their previous decade's composure and high class Extreme Metal flamboyance. Beyond the music itself, and through the mist of pure human evil and monstrosity, it is possible to find a last patch of hope, a patch of craving emotion and a longing for an end. Without a doubt, these influential elements seemed to have been a major guide in the band's journey through their war stories. As for the music itself, in this here vision, Death Metal is at its constant evolutionary state, retaining its old school mastery, yet also driving force from melodic entails and passionate blackened figure that has been keeping the fire burning in the creator's eyes. "The World Ablaze" may as well become a strong competitor to the first chapter of the WWI trilogy, "Passchendaele", which, at least for me, shared some of extreme Metal's greatest moments. The utmost important combination of melodies, sharing a wonderful aching soloing and dramatic guitar leads, and the slow tempo open chords rhythm guitar riffs, actually kicked something inside. Along with the raging storm blazing through the fast tempo and barrage of double bass action, the album's experience became even stronger, addictive.

The war theater of "The World Ablaze", unstoppable bashes and clashes delivered with an heartache of "Annihilation Crusade", near the final stranglehold of the enemy within "Close to Victory", the final chapter to end it all crossing "The 11th Hour" and the melodic practice marching through ice and snow "Escape Across the Ice (The White Army)", I guess that out of the horrors and deaths of so many, at least there is someone to sing there song and their truths. GOD DETHRONED has never sounded more creative, robust, definitive and on occasion sticking a needle right on one's brain. "The World Ablaze" is a must experience for historians and extreme Metal fans. It might not be the band's early period, but they are way beyond it and it has been for their own benefit.
