Forklift Elevator - Killerself album cover

Having previously released their debut album in 2015 FORKLIFT ELEVATORare back with a slightly changed line up and a 7 song EP entitled "Killerself". On their 2nd release the Italian based band do not stray too far away from their previous album but for me personally the production on this is better than on Borderline and the sound of the band more geared towards a grove Metal sound in the vain of PANTERA and MACHINE HEAD whereas their previous effort had a bit more of a traditional, Judas Priest type vibe to it. Starting off the with a short but ultimately unesessary intro called "Life Denied" which could have easily been part of the 1st song instead of a separate intro as it only consist of not even a minute long acoustic guitar chord. Launching into the first proper song on the album entitled "Bagger 228" and you are straight away confronted by a wall of guitars and a groove laden rhythm section with an energetic forward drive and a good deal of chugging in the riff department, about half way through the song slows before erupting again with a short but sweet solo before going back into the groove that started the song. Overall a confident and effective opener the song is a good representation of what to expect from the rest of the album with the following track supporting that statement.  Second song "The 8th Sin" has a slightly faster groove and some guitar work not far removed from Machine Head, what is also noticeable is the added gang shouts which gives the song a good mosh pit sing and shout along feel, before the solo kicks in the band produce perhaps one of the best riffs on the whole EP, a slow but grinding affair the riff could almost have come from Obituary during their World Demise album cycle.

"Deception" the 4th song starts off with a riff very reminiscent of PANTERA during Walk on Vulgar display of power before grooving along with what sounds like a mix of TESTAMENT and PISSING RAZORS, the band showing on this song especially in the rhythm and riff department that they are heavily influenced by many a band from across the modern groove and Thrash Metal spectrum, a fact accentuated by a short riff at the end of the song that could have come straight from HATEBREED. Forklift Elevator are clearly a band influenced by the aforementioned bands and do a more than stellar job in paying respect to their peers. The remaining tracks on this EP are not much different from all the above mentioned tracks and the quality of the musicianship is on par with some of the most talented players of the Modern Metal genre. If the band continues on this path and is able to add a bit more of an individual identity to their sound, then they could have a promising future ahead of them.
