SIC ZONE was born in Germany in the summer of 2013. Shortly after their birth they released their debut album "Bear the Consequences" which granted the group a lot of press with great reviews and an accompanying tour with SIX FEET UNDER in Europe. They are back with their second release "Re Evil Lotion". This album was created with tons of emotion. In 2015, the band suffered two casualties that ended up being where most of the emotion came from for this album. First was the loss of their friend and bass-player for DRAGONFIRE, Thassilo as well as the band best friend and manager C. Aston, to cancer, later that year. "Re Evil Lotion" comes in at a meaty sixteen tracks and a listening time of about an hour and thirteen minutes.
The opening track, "Against" is something out of war. Screaming people, crying children, sirens, gunfire and military antics. Then come in a heavy and distorted guitar that rounds the whole track out, but also leads to the transition into "Frontal", track two. This one, in Extreme Groove Metal style, comes in hard and fast. The vocals range from a very low guttural growl to more of a creepy scream. The drums and bass work cleverly together in this track along with the guitars, this track is well rounded and powerful.
Track four, "Burning" is hard and fast and extreme. It's a fun listen; with that creep-scream that reminds me of those carnivals that horrifying things happen in. this is that song. It's got the energy and the power. "Burning" is a solid track. "Fly", track five, is my favorite track on the album. The vocals stay pretty low throughout, but the musical elements are also so very low. This track has a ton of emotion, rawness, and brutality riddled throughout. It is an impeccable track. Bass, oh how I love the bass. Track seven, "Unforgiving" gets some of the most incredible bass love in the album. Now don't get me wrong. The bass throughout is wondrous, but this track takes it to another level. I enjoy the vocals in this track. They scream, they speak, and they bite your head off. All the best mixed into one heavy and crunchy track.
"Mary An Mathews" was written during some of the turbulent times these guys faced in 2015. You can feel it, the emotion, the raw emotion that was weaved into this track, as they had to face what was happening. It is strong and it has bit. The final track "Imw" (In my world), is much softer in tone but still so brutal and low. It's an interesting track to pick for a final for the regular album, but I love that they did. It's so different from the rest of the album. "Diagnosis-Mainstream" is one of the three bonus tracks on the album. This mammoth track is almost fifteen minutes long. However, there is a very long interlude within the track making it a very none needed length. The last minute or so comes back with a small and compared to the rest of the album an underwhelming end.
SIC ZONE's "Re Evil Lotion" is a masterful Groove Metal album. There is a ton of raw emotion and so much hardness in the tracks of this album. It is a good listen with intricate elements throughout. Take a listen to SIC ZONE's sophomore effort, you wont be disappointed.
