Drunkard - Inhale The Inferno album cover

Not only is the sheer amount of modern Metal that is coming out of Greece astonishing, but the range and quality of it is too. Whilst Power and Progressive genres are the one that immediately come to mind (from my experience) it turns out that there are some pretty good Thrash acts out there too. Fast, powerful and still groovy, DRUNKARD are a group that not only grab you by the balls, but their sound is so huge that it seems like there should be far more than just the three of them playing.

Having been around since the late 90s, this heavy thrashing trio have not only taken their influences from the heaviest Thrash groups, they have also held support slots for many of them. Their latest release "Inhale the Inferno" is a huge, high-speed attack whose ten tracks show speed, aggression and a phenomenal rhythmic tightness that grooves all the way through.

None of the songs are particularly long, and there is no real over-the-top aspect to it. The solos are fewer than on many other records, and less ostentatious. Vocally, SAVVAS MISTILIADIS is growls and shout the plentifully violent and hellish lyrics that suit the evil nature of this music right down to the ground.

If you are a fan of thrash metal old or new, DRUNKARD are a group to check out. The riffs are tight and the way that the drums, bass and guitar are at times completely in sync at these high speeds is incredible; and there is also plenty of groove that still shines through. There is no let-up of intensity on this album; it is certainly one that you put on and then hold on for dear life all the way through. The speed, passion and evil are all honest and there for all to see. I wouldn't be surprised if this was in Satan's car stereo...
