Ata D' Arc - Call Of Peace album cover

Well, it's not everyday that I receive parcels from Brazil. It probably has something to do with the distance between our countries. Still, as far as I can recall, most albums that have fallen into my hands from the country of Samba were at least good. Call Of Peace is not simply good. It's excellent! It made me wonder if we must stop searching for good acts in traditional Metal countries (Germany / England) and start looking around in all the corners of the world.
The band with the weird name (created by their singer, roughly stands for Testimony Of A Name) was created by Tulio Cesar Torres and Ricardo Linassi, in order to form a melodic Heavy Metal act. Well, they fall pretty close BUT describing them only as melodic Heavy Metal would be an injustice for these guys since their music is influenced by many genres.
Listening to Dark Eyes, I came to the assumption that this is the way Dream Theater would sound if they hadn't changed that much after the release of their debut album. Indeed Symphony X and Dream Theater are two bands that come in mind once you get to listen to Call Of Peace. There are some epic elements, for example the great ballad Time For The Time. Though Torres needs to work a lot on his voice, he manages to handle the multileveled material quite well most of the time (he must look out for his high notes).
This EP (running time a bit over 34 minutes) is an impressive debut for this Brazilian act. As far as I know, they're already working on their first full length release. So, I can't wait to listen to that one!
