Eucharist - Endarkenment album cover

So apparently there are a lot of bands out there called EUCHARIST. There's the fairly famous Swedish band, which featured the drummer who went on to join ARCH ENEMY, and there seems to be a ridiculous amount of terrible emo and pre-pubescent pop punk bands with the same name, however this EUCHARIST, hailing from Australia, is definitely very, very different from all of these.

First of all, I could find next to no information at all on this band, except that they are Australian, and with Iron Bonehead Productions. They only released 500 copies of this EP, and the rest is sold on the Bandcamp website for Iron Bonehead, and even they don't give much info. It seems that EUCHARIST want to remain mysterious, which honestly adds to their incredibly creepy vibe. "Endarkenment" is only two tracks long, which at first glance is barely an EP, and more of and single release. Then you see the length of those two songs. Both of them are over the thirteen minute mark, making this longer than many EPs with more than twice the amount of tracks. Those two tracks, entitled "Evocatis Tenebris", and "Rituali Mortem", are two of the darkest most evil songs I have ever heard, making me think that maybe the reason EUCHARIST want to be mysterious is because they are in fact demons. Seems possible with the way these songs play out.

Both songs are probably best described as 'Avant Garde Black Metal' with how extremely experimental and bizarre they are. They are drawn out tracks of insane drumming which sounds like it was recorded in a haunted house, heavily distorted and faded guitar riffs, and completely unintelligible low and haunting vocals which have me wondering if the vocalist is actually saying words or just growling and making demonic sounds. Black metal lyrics are usually based in the occult, evil, or demons, so I'm sure that if there are words, this is probably the subject matter. For all we know, he could be growling in Latin to further add to their creepy nightmarish image.

With everything that's been said here I feel like something should be cleared up. I honestly enjoyed this EP. It was extremely weird and beyond bleak, but there was something very cool about the way it was done and the feel that came through. It feels like the music could be possessed or haunted and this is exactly what I'm sure most black metal bands aim to achieve. So in this regard, EUCHARIST have definitely succeeded. At around 27 minutes, this was a short listen, however even though I thought that I possibly couldn't handle it much longer, I went straight back to the start and listened again. Then again. Yeah so it's probably possessed.
