Power From Hell - Devil's Whorehouse album cover

What's up, Metal maniacs? I'm here once again to give you an insight on this multilingual-genre: Black, Thrash and Speed Metal quintet; hailing from Brazil known as: POWER FROM HELL, signed via Hells Headbangers Records.

I'll be frank...I was quite excited to listen to this one; as it prescribes the word: POWER, in the band title...I'm all for power, aren't we all? But unfortunately, as I begin "Old Metal", I felt a little underwhelmed with the sound production intake...

Maybe I'm just too used to a crisp, crystal clear, solid sound production...or maybe I just can't fathom on why a band would keep a sound that would influence on from the 80s era of sound in the year 2015...from the get go, I felt disappointed with this focus. While POWER FROM HELL has instrumental integrity of all things Black, Thrash and Speed Metal; the sound production just feels completely off, and it disappoints me to say that. This album, "Devil's Whorehouse", seems to want to keep that 80s-style of sound production influence, that, doesn't really give the listener that "power from hell" that you'd expect to be delivered. However, with the one negative out of the way, I can now focus on why POWER FROM HELL's "Devil's Whorehouse" should be listened to at least once...

It's that POWER FROM HELL keep the fine tradition of Black and Thrash Metal all in-check. While the sound production may sound a little off putting... Sodomic on guitars and vocals and the Tormentor on bass (I couldn't find information out on who does the drums) perform some brilliantly produced, satanic melodies that make me want to thrash about like a maniac. I noticed the guitar solos tend to up their sound more so than the other instruments; it does sound good, but I'd much have preferred it if ALL instruments were upped more so. While it's a decent take on originality, as I've never really heard this take before.

While "Devil's Whorehouse" is a short album; it still has some brilliant satanic-like songs including "Revelations Of The Flesh", "Howling At The Blood Moon" and "Armageddon", which end up "growing" on me despite the problem I have with the sound production. Memorability wise though, these songs would hold up greatly and continues to open my mind more as I progress into "Nightcrawler" (not to be confused with the JUDAS PRIEST classic) "Torture Garden" and "666 Ways To Blasphemy" and a cover of "Mais um Ano Esfria" by VELHO all have musical, Black Metal and Thrash Metal integrity, but also makes "Devil's Whorehouse" a much better album with the sound quality getting better as I enjoy it a lot more.

So bottom line..."Devil's Whorehouse" is a great album for what it is, but I still can't grasp on why the sound production is lack-filled and disappointing (for the most part), check it out...if you dare. Sound production completionists though, beware.<
