For The Sake Of Revenge - DVD
Sonata Arctica

Sonata Arctica is one of those bands that slowly but steadily manage to dominate in their genre and achieve world class recognition through their work so far. After a series of over-successful studio albums (and a significant number of EPs / Singles) this live DVD comes as a seal of the band's abilities on stage. Those of you who already got the live CD Songs Of Silence - Live In Tokyo [2002] (and / or also possess most CD singles that also include live moments of the band) already know that the band delivers a rather energetic show on stage.
For The Sake Of Revenge includes pretty much everything a Sonata Arctica fan would like to see on DVD. This quite lengthy live album includes all the hits the band has delivered through its career. It is with great pleasure to see that all the studio albums are equally represented in this DVD from their debut Ecliptica back in 1999 and up to their latest Reckoning Night. If you ask me, I really found it hard to complain about a missing song from the setlist.
Regarding the band's performance, there's no doubt that they were in great mood the day they shot this DVD. Toni Kakko's voice is in really good shape (watching them drinking in the special features documentary, I wonder how that's possible) while his interaction with the somewhat frozen audience is definitely warm. He doesn't hesitate to make fun of the band announcing Victoria's Secret as the underwear song amongst other funny moments. The sound quality is really good. At this point I would only like to complain that unfortunately at moments the lack of a second guitar player creates gaps making the sound a bit thin no mater how hard the keyboard players try for the opposite. On the other hand, the picture quality can be considered top-notch with really crispy colors.
In conclusion, this live DVD is an excellent addition for the fans of the band but also a great way to start knowing the band for the first time listener.
