DEAD END SCENE is a Metal band that coming from Helsinki, Finland. The band was formed in the last years and since than writing music for their debut EP. The band is bringing a really interesting combination between a lot of sounds to create a new kind of Modern Metal. In 2015 the band released their very first EP that called "Sickness".
A long acoustic intro leads us into "The New Rules", the first song in the album. One thing that I appreciate about this band, I already can say, is that they have courage. They are not walking by the rules, and literally creating the new rules. They are not afraid to put together elements from LAMB OF GOD and AVENGED SEVENFOLD to create something of their own.
Does it mean that the song is good? No, the song is perfect. The melody and the groove of this band is matching in an amazing way, and it's something that even big bands such as BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE are not doing to such a level, this day. There are also some great guitar parts and really good chorus, but the most powerful weapon of this band is their groove that give them the energy.
"Rise To Fall" is the best song in the album for my opinion. Once again, the band is doing the combination of some Groove Metal and melody that is coming from the Hard Rock world. The verses are dedicated to the Metal fans, for whoever love screams and distortion. But the choruses and are much more melodic and more coming for the oldschool and for the Rock fans.
For a first release it;s an amazing EP, though one thing that I can say about this EP is that it's a little too much confusing. Yes, I know that the band wanted to do something ambitious and it's great, but at some point the game they are playing becomes trite and confusing. Like in "Sickness", a song that could have a lot better if the band were a little bit more thoughtful about the quality of the song and less on this game. I know that it's a brand new thing that they love to play with, but at some point it's a little bit too many things that are disturbing to the flow, to enjoy the song itself.
In the bottom line, it's mostly an impressive EP. The production, the performance, and mostly the creativity of a band, especially since it's only their first CD. The first thing that I thought when I finished hearing this EP was 'wow, is it for sure that it's not from their 5th record?'. I'm not saying that this band is perfect, after the second time that I heard this EP I understood that the game of the combinations between melodic Rock and Groove Metal started to come across as mashed instead of weaved. Still, it's one of the most impressive debut EP's that I have heard in the last months and I think that this band can have a big future.
