EOS
End of Skyline

The first thing I thought when I listened to "Reproach", which is the first song in "EOS" is: "I'm going to listen to another one of those "Djent" bands trying to be MONUMENTS" and I was surprised to be wrong when Milly's clean and beautiful voice got all over the song and gave it a completely different prespective from the one I've had in the first few seconds. This song gave me a feeling that the band members are professional musicians who have lots of experience in writing, producing, recording and performing before END OF SKYLINE was founded and after a little search in their biography I found I was correct and it made me slightly disappointed, because "Reproach" is a song that sounds like it was written into a pattern which doesn't go anywhere. The writing is good, Peppe and Frank's guitars are tight and you can hear that both are great guitar players. Dan's bass lines are simple but yet fill the song's background perfectly and Ale's tight but too simple for my taste and yet "Reproach" fails to keep me intrigued. I would love to give "Reproach" a second try and hear them playing it live, I suppose the reason this song can't keep me interested, might be because of an unfitting audio-engineering and producing.
"Protection" starts of with a blast of groovy metalcore riffs and Milly's voice immediately captured my heart again. Similar to "Reproach", the song is full of beautiful melodies and tight playing, the difference is "Protection" made me do a little headbang along it's groovy riffs, it's much more aggressive and skill-showing then it's earlier brother "Reproach" but yet fits the same pattern of a very emotion evoking chorus and an upgraded version of the chorus as an outro. Still, END OF SKYLINE haven't yet managed to make me fall off my chair.
"Alone" is the last song of the EP "EOS", and it does give me the feel of an ending, intended or not, it gives me the feel of freedom, like that feeling you have when you watch a slow-motion video of a bird flying with the sun setting in the background, with fearless heroic warriors running towards a fight and winning at the same time, which is contradictory in a funny way. "Alone" in my opinion is the jewel of "EOS", it's strong, emotional and heroic, even though they strayed a bit from the style of the previous songs, and even went back a little in time to a less modern writing style. This was the song I enjoyed the most of this EP.
"EOS" has some weak points in my opinion, one of these points is the intros of the songs, they all started pretty much the same and the first two songs "Reproach" and "Protection" felt pretty much the same to me, with no change in the aspects of the way it makes you feel, or what they intended to express in each song, it actually felt like these songs were written for the sole purpose of issuing a song.
unlike these two, "Alone" felt full of meaning and caught me completely.
If I could rate "Alone" alone (pun not intended), I would give it an 8! For "EOS" as an EP I sadly have to say, a rating of 8 is too high, because there is nothing that makes END OF SKYLINE stand out from the rest of the bands in this genre except the fact that the vocals are whiny. Therefore the rating I give "EOS" will be 5 out of 10.
