After having released full length albums in 2008 and 2012, four-piece Colombian Death Black Metal band NEPENTE have decided to keep it a little shorter and come out with a new EP called "I Will Get Your Soul". They may give in some length, but they certainly don't decrease their levels of speed, power and heaviness.

In the first song, "I Will Get Your Soul", they start off with an acoustic intro like BLIND GUARDIAN might do. Then, suddenly, all hell breaks loose. Drums start banging uncontrollably; guitars play hard and very fast and the screaming starts. Imagine being on a tour bus on holiday and quickly take a passage through the depths of the kingdom of Lucifer himself. In the middle part they slow down a little bit, with palm muted guitars, but the rest of the music stays heavy as shit until the guitar solo starts, which reminds me a little of a slow version from DREAM THEATER's John Petrucci.

In "Show Me That You Are Suffering", NEPENTE follows through on their promises of more, harder and louder. The riffs stay heavy, stay power chorded, and I suspect the drummer might have surgically attached another few limbs onto himself. Too bad we can't understand the lyrics, 'cause at least José Ospina changes the way he screams a couple of times, which is more than I expect from any Death Metal vocalist. "Gray Land" and "Last Rites" are a little more of the same, but in this case that certainly isn't something to jeer about. NEPENTE will give you exactly what you look for in a Black Death Metal band, no more no less, except for maybe the occasional guitar solo that sounds a little more like Progressive or Thrash Metal. All in all, no surprises, except maybe a few positive ones.<
