Remember how in one of my latest reviews I said that I wouldn't be able to list the number of bands I have reviewed this year who are from Britain? That list just got even longer, as the band featured in todays review are yet another British band who this year have released their new EP so without further ado, let us dive in and see if this is another band whose talent amazes me and makes me proud to be British even more shall we?
The band in question is called CASINO THIEVES and their new EP "The Quiet Road Home" is out now. This Alternative Rock trio is from South Wales and so far they have one EP out entitled "Russian Courage" and now they are back with a second, which is the focus of this review. Already the EP has had some success as, so far, it's been played on BBC Radio and Amazing Radio and its also got some good acclaim from Black Velvet Magazine so already things are getting off to a good start as it must be good if it's getting that much support.
So is it good? I must say I was surprised when I first heard it, as usually I don't expect much from new music if I'm unfamiliar with the band or the genre they specialize in, but upon listening to this, I was actually quite amazed at how good this is as the more I listened to it, the more I found myself liking it.
So what makes this such an enjoyable EP to listen to over and over? Let's start with the music shall we? The melodies of the music are very heavy and at times they do sound a bit melodic here and there thanks to the heavy guitars, the groovy bass riffs and the simple but good drum sounds and all three of these instruments are accompanied by a punchy and energetic vocal performance which may sound a bit iffy and a bit off when you listen to it for the first time but you'll find that the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you and soon you realize that actually, the vocals on this short but sweet EP are actually very good.
Time now for that verdict, and it's time to resort back to the question I asked at the start of this review, which is, is this band good enough to be added to my list of good bands that makes me proud to be British? Well I am happy to report that, yes they are. I like this short but sweet EP as it's very simple and it has some melodies which are very punchy, energetic and overall very enjoyable and CASINO THIEVES are definitely a band you should watch and keep an eye on.
