Holy shit! There aren't many 3-track albums out there that get me as excited as this EP did when I listened to it, actually, I don't think any 3-track album his given me as many heart palpitations and eargasms as this one has! WALPYRGUS formed in 2012 in North Carolina and have just released their self-titled EP, and is possibly the best heavy metal EP ever! The only thing negative I can say is that its only 3 tracks long and doesn't reach 15 minutes in length, but I guess that's not even negative because it does exactly what an EP is supposed to do; leave you wanting more on a full length album! This EP is beyond perfect.

The first track, "Cold Cold Ground" starts off simple with some power chords on the guitar, only to then burst into a blistering guitar solo reminiscent of ex JUDAS PRIEST guitarist KK Downing. This is a great song to introduce the listener to the majesty that is WALPYRGUS, the tempo is that right heavy metal speed in the sense that its fast, but not too fast. And the vocals? Wow! Aune's voice is bloody incredible! 2 minutes in and I'm already fairly sure that this EP is going to be some of the best music I've heard all year.

"The Sisters" is next and starts off slightly doomy, only top then kick in with a NWOBHM like harmonised guitar riff which is certain to get your foot tapping and your head banging. This is the mid-tempo song of the album with a more sing-along feel to the chorus. This one has some awesome harmonised guitar work throughout quite a few sections too which sounds amazing! The production quality here is first class as well; No faults to this EP what so ever.

Last but definitely no least is the shortest but also fastest song, "We Are the Wolves", this song bleeds NWOBHM from start to finish and is my personal favourite, It gives me chills every time I listen to it; from the SAXON-like riff to open the song, the sing-along chorus, the typical heavy metal 'Whoa-oo-oo-oh' section towards the end, the duelling guitar solos... Everything about this song and this EP is just amazing, and I can't see myself ever getting tired of these 3 songs, I just hope WALPYRGUS release a full length album as soon as possible, because I'll be lining up to buy it on the morning of the release day, and I suggest you do the same with this masterpiece of an EP, support this band because they absolutely deserve it!
