We all know that the Germans are masters of imaginative metal music, and are not afraid to take risks, for a small up-comer, Dioramic have done exactly this in their recent release of Supra. Advancing to their third full length album, the band have already explored deep ingenuity and layering of different textures to create a clear distinctive sound that has stuck to them throughout the five years of being together.
Upon entering the album 'Xibalba' chucks in a mammoth guitar riff, that is built with layers of sound which calms Arkadi Zaslavski's vocals smoothly. Just at the right temperature, this track meets you in the middle of Dioramic's hale before blasting an aggressive ending. Reverting into 'Carpets on the Walls' a heavy, chunky riff if suddenly heard, showing off the bands heavier outlook to their music, plunging in head first. The whole track is discharged with this same djenty feel, as it takes over the main body, sending ample chills down your spine.
Filling the sandwich with a tricky little two piece, 'The calm Before' and 'The Storm' have two polar opposite approaches, tying in with the follow up titles. Starting off dull and dreary, the track drags on with stretched out vocals that yawn along the subtle music, while in conjunction 'The Storm' provides lively beats that keep you alert. A mixture of clean vocals soon emerge within the track, mixing up their sound a little.
Although Dioramic have tried to find new sounds, they have taken a step back with their hard hitting voice as 'Worth' appears to be an outshiner, yet it's tranquil aura, provides an easy listen. Feeling as though the whole record doesn't quite live up to the bands hyped expectation, it still works as a whole, sticking to a solid theme that can be found in elements of each song. 'Logbook' finishes this perfectly, combining the sedative parts with critical climaxes, summing up the whole record in it's content.
