The Ancient Ages of Mankind
Land of Tears
The band is a cult here, and with two Demo CDs (2002's "Canon Episcopi", and 2003's "Total Disgrace"), and 2007's EP "World of Pain", their way was paved, and this album was awaited for many since long. And during this time, they evolved to a more elegant, powerful and technical music, without losing their roots. It's Death Metal with great influences from other Metal styles, sounding heavy, grandiose and some times more melodic. Guttural vocals in the vein of Chuck Schuldiner, excellent guitar riffs and solos (sometimes harsh, sometimes more melodic), and a strong rhythmic basis with great changes and technique. Fusing this all: be prepared for the attack!
To make the album's production, the band joined forces with Marco Anviato (who played all bass guitar parts on the CD) of HCS Studio. And the result is a thunderous and heavy sound coming from the speakers, aggressive and extremely dry and clean. And this makes this a CD that you can't hear from an illegal download.
Antonio Sabá painted the cover, and Rodolfo Ferreira, from Obsidian Design Digital Art made the entire design, with each page of the booklet with a pic that represent the lyrical content of the songs, now focused on myths from ancient Asia and Europe.
The time they took to make "The Ancient Ages of Mankind" showed to be a good option, for their musical work and lyrical content had matured to a point very different of what is being done in Brazil right now. It had born perfect, just like that!
Better moments in a perfect album: "The Collosus of Rhodes", a mid tempo song with great changes, showing a very good work from the drums; the excellent "Cerberus" (the album's first Single) with perfect riffs and solos; the grandiose "Mega Alexandros" (with some melodic and modern Metal influences coming abrasively, showing a good dynamic between guitars and rhythmic basis), and the fast and thunderous "Omega Legions", again with great vocals, and intelligent riffs.
Ol' Big Daddy here can say that "The Ancient Ages of Mankind" is not a difficult album to hear and like, but the total comprehension of it's meaning comes from repeated hearings. But take care, for the wall will tremble a lot.
Without a shadow of doubt, one of the best albums from this year.
