Ever been so fascinated with something to the point where your mind begins to wander and think? Well this is the power Dark Melodic Metal outfit EVERGREY gave me in the form of their latest arrival to their discography. This remarkable addition is christened "Hymns For The Broken" and if this doesn't ensure a solid comeback from the Swedish Metal heads I don't what will.
They have been in the industry for nearly two decades and during this time they have scored eight studio albums including "The Dark Discovery" in 1998, "Recreation Day" in 2003 and "Torn" in 2008. "Hymns For The Broken" is album number nine; this nearly didn't happen as EVERGREY were about to call acquits, whether it was the increasing pressure of the music business or they felt less inspired to continue, we will never know. What I do know is that I am glad they didn't throw in the towel and the main reason being is this masterpiece better known as "Hymns For The Broken".
The album gets off to a somewhat uneasy start with opening track "The Awakening" which is a soundtrack of someone being tortured but the smooth transition to the thought provoking single "King Of Errors" takes away the uncertainty and gives you the start of a truly excellent record. As the album progressed I just could not fault anything at all! All these melodies were absolutely divine and beautiful; exactly what I would expect from Dark Melodic Metal.
There are many astounding songs on this incredible record but the ones that I enjoy the most are "Archaic Rage", "Barricades" and "Hymns For The Broken". Each of these mesmerising tracks have all the components for my ideal Metal songs; these include sweeping melodies, excellent use of instruments including guitars and pianos and that sensation of feeling free when you are immersed so deeply into something.
The beautiful ballad "Missing You" provides an opportunity to encounter the band's softer side where you can hear Tom Englund's vocals at their very best, especially when they have exquisite piano accompaniments provided by Rikard Zander. I am adamant in thinking this will become the next big Metal ballad.
"The Aftermath" provided one last chance to escape the stresses of reality before marking the end of an epic journey.
I am hoping you've gathered from this glowing report that I enjoyed this record immensely! It provides you with amazing Metal tracks that I think will go down in history one day and gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself away from reality.
So for me this was the perfect record!
